Municipalities around the globe are competing for leadership in smartness – a title to which universities should have a legitimate claim. Although the goal of smart cities is laudable, in practice most have amassed a simple selection of smart applications, which together are yet unable to deliver city-wide smartness. This presentation seeks to engage the academic community in bridging the gaps that are holding smart cities back by outlining key drivers, overcoming key obstacles and proving a scalable model to demonstrate what’s possible.
