Brian Simmons, Onboard Data
Onboard Data is working with Penn State University to transform their facility data into a
valuable resource to drive energy savings with operational efficiencies. We are focused on
solving the largest barriers to adopting smart analytics software; upfront data acquisition,
integration, and data quality management. Onboard is developing a novel machine learning
based classification system to rapidly standardize building data. In the summer of 2019
Onboard was awarded an SIBR grant from the Department of Energy to further research and
development of our automated classification system. In order to solve the data acquisition
challenges Onboard is utilizing the open-source software Volttron which was developed by the
Pacific Northwest National Lab. Onboard collects data with Volttron, rapidly standardizes it with
machine learning and stores it in the Data Maestra cloud platform where it is protected and
version controlled with the emerging Haystack and BRICK standards.
